    Forms of Child Abuse

    • Physical Abuse - Injuries to children that are not accidental
    • Physical Neglect - Not providing children with enough food,
      clothing, shelter, medical care, hygiene, etc.
    • Sexual Abuse - Non-mutual, non-consensual sexual contact
    • Emotional Abuse - Attaching a child’s self esteem; constant criticism, yelling, belittling. Insulting, rejecting and withholding love and support

    FACTS

    • Two thousand (2,000) children die each year in the United States because of abuse.
    • More than 80,000 cases of physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect were reported in the Central Valley last year.
    • Child abusers can be parents, caretakers, friends and neighbors.

    What can you do?

    • Reach out for help if you need it.
    • Reach out to help someone else
    • Report suspected abuse
    • Volunteer your time
    • Donate to child abuse prevention efforts
    • Learn more about child abuse and the services in your area

    When you see abuse in public:

    • Don’t criticize
    • Offer to help in small ways – with other children, carry groceries, etc
    • Find something positive to say about the child
    • Remember that most parents love their kids and want to be good parents
